FORMULA 3 TO RACE FOR CITY TROPHY
The Formula 3 Outboard Tunnel Boats are racing for the City of New Martinsville trophy, presented during RegattaFest on September 25, 2022. Defending champion, Jonah Gilbertson of Minneapolis, MN, plans to retain his 2021 championship. However, there are eight other drivers, including newcomer Adam Low (Detroit, MI), with their sights set on grabbing first place and the coveted award.
The Formula 3 Class boats are 14 feet long and powered by an OMC 56.1 cubic inch engine. The class was first raced in Charleston, SC, in 1989 by the Powerboat Superleague. The ¼-mile straightaway record for F3 was set in New Martinsville by Sammy Miller of Chicago, IL, in 2013 at 88.678 mph.
The RegattaFest appreciates the support from New Martinsville Mayor Sandy Hunt and City Council members for believing RegattaFest through sponsorship and providing the property for the spectator area, pit area, and the launch. We would also like to thank the city departments for all the volunteer time their employees put in to help make the event successful.
It’s fast, FREE, family fun all weekend with sanctioned powerboat racing, a great Kid’s Zone with inflatables, Pause for Paws, DJ music, displays, and vendors, from noon to 5 pm on Saturday and noon to 4 pm on Sunday. Plan to join us on September 24-25, 2022, for the eleventh annual New Martinsville Area RegattaFest.
